He graduated with honours from the Department of Composition at the Hochschule der Künste Bern in Switzerland, in the class of Django Bates, and from the piano department at the Grażyna and Kiejstut Bacewicz Academy of Music in Łódź, where he is currently a lecturer and a PhD student.
He has ten studio albums to his name. His latest album, Współgłosy, received a nomination for the most prestigious award in the Polish phonographic industry, the Fryderyk (the Polish equivalent of the Grammy). In 2023, he also received a Fryderyk nomination for his trio’s album Opalenizna i Wiatr. The album Jerry & The Pelican System was released in the legendary Polish Jazz series published by Warner Music. He is also the pianist of the internationally acclaimed jazz ensemble Wojtek Mazolewski Quintet, with whom he released the internationally critically acclaimed album Beautiful People in 2024.
He actively performs in Poland and abroad, with performances in Argentina, Switzerland, the UK, Chile, Mexico, France, Pakistan, Germany, Spain, Luxembourg, and Hungary.
Marcel Baliński is the creator and leader of the Współgłosy project. He leads an ensemble based on dialogue and improvisation, combining various musical genres into a unique, avant-garde formula. The ensemble has gained great recognition for its originality and creative approach to contemporary music. It features a choir of people with intellectual disabilities, a jazz trio, and two actors.
He is the initiator and co-organizer of the Dwa Piętra festival of classical, alternative, and avant-garde music in Łódź, the first edition of which was honored in the JazzPRESS poll for a Polish jazz concert event. As part of the Artistic Scholarship received from the Mayor of Łódź, he organized a series of jazz concerts in urban spaces in Łódź with limited access to cultural events.
He is the president of the Współgłosy Foundation, which he founded to develop and activate people with disabilities in artistic communities.
